＊森田貴博が13年前から毎年取材しているアッシジに、3年前から平井栄美も毎年同行取材をすることになりました。今回は、2005年4月5日から5月4日までの1ヶ月間、「イタリア中部」フィレンツェ、サン･ジミニャーノ、アッシジ、スペッロ、ウルビーノ、モンテファルコ、オルテ、ローマを取材しました。このページには、取材した透明水彩画のスケッチと記録、そして宿泊先や旅の情報を掲載しています。（取材スケッチの枚数：森田47枚と平井45枚からの抜粋）※帰国後、取材した水彩画から油絵・版画作品を制作し、企画展にて発表しています。

福岡発　香港経由　7:30AMイタリア・ローマ着。
 4日の新聞で法王崩御の報を知っていた私たちは、25時間強の長旅だったにもかかわらず、ローマに立ち寄り法王の遺骸をひと目だけでもと願った。しかし現実は甘いものではなく、全世界からの巡礼団で充満した街は飽和状態。交通機関はマヒし、官庁は閉鎖し、唯一起動している地下鉄も人数規制しながらの大パニック状態。それを狙ったスリも多発し、店舗は野宿状態の巡礼者のトイレと化していた。公道には関係者への通路確保の為の綱が張られていたが、それがますます人々のイライラを煽っていた。街中騒ぎ声や怒鳴り声などで溢れ、「聖なる行進」とは程遠い状態。狂気的な感があった。私たちは30分ほど列に参加したが、直ぐに諦めてフィレンツェに向かった。

April 6th
departing Fukuoka via Hong Kong, arrived Roma, 7:30am.
The previous pope Giovanni Paulo II past away 2 days before our departure for Roma, we wanted to be in St. Paul Cathedral in Vatican, just to see the pope.  But, as it was expected, there were thousands of people packed in a long queue on the way to Vatican.  All of official transportations were stopped. Offices were closed.  We only saw chaos of the pilgrimage.  We soon gave up standing there, and quickly left for Firenze.

ポントルモ作「十字架降下」

（4月6日〜7日）
ローマ・テルミニ駅に預けた荷物を受け取り、13:30PMミラノ行きユーロ･スターに乗り、15:30PMフィレンツェ・サンタ･マリア・ノヴェッラ駅に到着。インフォメーションでいつもの如く地図を頂き、いつもの馴染みの宿Hotel Giapponeに到着。春夏の繁忙期にはホテルの金額が高くなるところ、馴染みの客ということもあり、安く泊まることができた。7日、外は曇り。午前中はピッティ宮のパラッティーナ美術館に行き、ラファエッロの「小椅子の聖母」など名画を鑑賞し、ピッティ宮を出て右手のサンタ･フェリチタ教会へ入った。ポントルモの「十字架降下」や「受胎告知」を鑑賞し満足した私たちは、早速ベルヴェテーレ要塞にのぼり、どうにかこのスケッチ取材第一枚目の仕事を終えた。その後、ポンテヴェッキオ橋からアルノ川河川敷まで降りてきて、ポンテ･アッレ・グラツィエ橋を描いた。フィレンツェは、美しい街なので絵になるだろうと思われがちだが、観光客も多く、スケッチをするには引きが取れず、落ち着いて仕事をするには困難な場所である。早く田舎に行きたい。

April 6th to 7th
On the 6th, we took the 13:30pm Eurostar for Milano, arriving S. Maria Novella Station, Firenze on 15:30pm.  We picked up a town map at Tourist Info., and went to Hotel Giappone. 
On the 7th, cloudy outside.  We went to Galleria Palatina in Palazzo Pitti, and saw paintings such as  "Madonna della Seggiola" by Raffaello, and then went into Santa Felicita to see "Deposition" and "Annunciation" by Pontormo.  We sketched the view from Forte di Belvedere, and sketched Ponte alle Grazie from the river side of Arno.  Firenze is beautiful, but difficult to find places to sketch.

San Giminignano (サン・ジミニャーノ）

（4月8日〜9日）
早朝フィレンツェのサンタマリア・ノヴェッラ駅近くのSITA社のプルマンでサン・ジミニャーノのスケッチ取材へと向かう。途中ポッジボンシ（Poggibonsi）で乗り換えてトータル1時間半ほどでサン・ジミニャーノの城壁前広場（Piazzale M. Montemaggio）に到着。映画「ブラザー・サン・シスター・ムーン」の撮影場所として有名で、他のゼフィレッリ作品にも多く使われている。但し、映画の中では暗い重々しい街のように表現されているが、実際は明るい灰色とクリーム色の石で出来ていて、とても小さな愛らしいところで、華やぎのある街だ。小さいにもかかわらず、中心広場が２つもあり隣接（P.za DuomoとP.za Cisterna）している。ドゥオーモにはドメニコ・ギルランダイオと工房による「聖フィーナの生涯」、ベノッツォ・ゴッツォーリ「聖セバスティアーノの殉教」、中庭にはセバスティアーノ・マイナルディ（ギルランダイオの弟子）「受胎告知」などのフレスコ画で飾られ豪華である。教会美術館、町立博物館、ポポロ館などが隣接しているため、リッポ・メンミ「マエスタ」、フィリッピーノ・リッピ「受胎告知」、ピントゥリッキオ（ピントリッキオ）「聖母被昇天と諸聖人」などの作品や、ダンテの大広間、大展望を観ることが出来る。その他にもサンタゴスティーノ教会や聖女フィーナの家など見るべきものが多い。

April 8th to 9th
On the 8th, we took a SITA bus for San Giminignano via Poggibonsi, from S. Maria Novella station.  San Giminignano is famous for the location of the film "Brother Sun, Sister Moon".  In the film, San Giminignano looks very dark, but in reality, they are bright and built creamy stones, and the town is lively and lovely.  We saw the fresco paintings of "St. Fina's Life" by Domenico Ghirlandaio and his studio, "Martyrdom of St. Sebastian" by Benozzo Gozzoli, "Annunciation" by Sebastiano Mainardi (Ghirlandaio's studio) in Duomo, then, Palazzo del Popolo, Room of Dante and the beautiful country view from the tower.

We stayed the comfortable old hotel, "Casa de' Potenti", whose rooms are beautifully decollated by antique furniture.  It was rain, but we took a place to sketch from the window of the hotel.  Later, we found the tower, where we painted there, was filmed as St. Francis' house in the film "Brother Sun, Sister Moon".

私たちが宿泊したのはドゥオーモ広場にあるカーサ・デ・ポテンティ（Ｃａｓａ ｄｅ Ｐｏｔｅｎｔｉ）という宿で、安価ながら非常に清潔で調度品等も良質な物を使用されている。17世紀の宮殿を宿にしたもの。フィレンツェ入りしてずっと風雨にたたられていたが、ここでも同様。宿の食堂にある窓から広場を描く。後日、描いた塔が「ブラザー・サン」でフランチェスコの家として撮影されたものだと知る。夜景も美しい。

9日（土）16：55、ポッジボンシ経由フィレンツェ行きのパスに乗り、18：30にフィレンツェへ到着。

April 9th to 11th
Departing San Giminignano via Poggibonsi for Firenze by bus at 16:55pm, and arriving Firenze at 18:30pm.

10日（日）雨。サント･スピリト教会の朝市で古本屋古物を見て歩き、サン･フェリーチェ教会に入り、ジョット派の十字架とミケランジェロ作聖母子像を鑑賞。雨が降っていたが、ミケランジェロ広場方向へViale G. Poggi通りを上り、途中でフィレンツェのパノラマをスケッチ。雨風が強くなってきて煽られる。寒さも増してきてスケッチは困難となってきたが、どうにか取材を終える。14：00、日曜日で前法王ジョヴァンニ･パウロＩＩが崩御されたこともありドゥーモも閉鎖。雨降りの人だかりを横目に出直すことにした。15：00、ドゥーモに再び行くと中に入ることが出来た。画聖ジョットとフィリッポ・ブルネッレスキの墓、そしてミケロッツォ作ダンテの絵画、バザーリ作天井画を観る。16：00、ダンテの通っていたという小さな教会「サンタ･マルゲリータ」に入り、更にダンテの住んでいた家にも行ってみる。

On the 10th, Sunday, Rain.  We walked around market in front of St. Spirit Church, and saw "Madonna & Child" painted by Michelangelo.  Then we sketched panorama from Viale Poggi.  It was rain and freezing, but we finally finished at 14:00pm.  When we went to Duomo, St. Maria della Fiore, it was closed, but 15:00pm, we could go in there, and we saw tombs of Giotto and Philippo Blnereschi and the painting of "Dante" by Michelozzo and  the paintings on the ceiling by Vasari.  At 16:00pm, we went to St. Margherita church where Dante used to visit, and his house.

　11日（月）、早朝、お気に入りの額屋「ジョヴァンニ・バッカーニ」に行く。しかし店は閉まっている。しばらく待つことを決めて、近くのオンニサンティ教会へ行きボッティチェルリとギルランダイオのフレスコ画を観て右手奥礼拝堂へ行く。9：00になったのでバッカーニは開店するだろうと店に行くとまだ閉まっている。月曜日は閉店だったのかとガッカリしていると、女性がバッカーニのドアを開けた。「月曜日は午前中が休みだけれど仕事があったので早く来たのよ。」と私たちを店内に入れてくれた。いつ来ても美しいバッカーニの店。MOON ARTで販売し始めてから4年。やっと仕入れて一安心。

On the 11th, Monday, we went to Giovanni Baccani, where is our most favorite frame shop in Italy, but it was closed.  We thought we should come back later, and went to Ognissanti church near by, and saw fresco paitings by Botticelli and Ghirlandaio.  Later, we went back to Giovanni Baccani, there was a woman opened the shop, and asked us to come in.  It was the 4th time for us to visit the shop, and everytime, we think the shop itself so beautiful.

（4月11日〜22日）
11日10：30、フィレンツェ・S.M.ノヴェッラ駅でOrte（オルテ）行き列車に乗る。13：30、アッシジ駅着。バスに乗ってアッシジ・マテオッティ広場の終点まで行く。古い友人の宿 Camere CARLI （カメーレ・カルリ）に泊まる。カルリの部屋にはロフトがあり一部屋4人まで泊まることができ、シンプルで美しい。彼（カルリ）の親戚には画家や美術品店 DACA （ダカ）のオーナーなどがいる。17：00、サン･フランチェスコ大聖堂の上院から入って下院、そしてサン･フランチェスコの墓に参列。フィレンツェのような都会からアッシジに来るとホッとする。

April 11th to 22nd
On the 11th, 10:30am, departing Firenze S. Maria Novella Station by train for Orte, arriving Assisi Station at 13:30.  We took a bas for Assisi Matteotti, the bus terminal.  We then walked to our friend's room rent "Camere CARLI" to stay.  Most of the rooms have a loft with 2 single beds, and 4 people can stay in a room.  Rooms are simple and beautifully decorated.  On the first day in Assisi, we visited St. Francis Cathedral, entered from the upper floor, and then the lower floor to the tomb of St. Francis on the basement.

12日、やっと晴れ。雨風続きの天候で疲労困憊していた私たちはソプラの旧市街で取材することに決めた。晴れの日には仕事が進む。食事は、食材屋で生ハムやサラミ、ペコリーノチーズをグラムで買い、それをパンに挟んだだけのシンプルな食事だが、イタリアのウンブリアの自然を眺めながら、その恵みを丸ごといただける幸せも一緒に噛締めながらの食事はなんとも表現しがたい。アッシジとはお金がなくとも幸せに過ごすことの出来る恵多い聖地であると改めて感じる。

On the 12th, Blue Sky after long rainy days during our travel.  We decided to sketch the upper part of Assisi old "Sopra".  Under the blue sky, beautiful day, we spent enjoyable time of sketching.  For our lunch, we mostly eat Italian ham, salami, and cheese with bread, viewing Italian beautiful nature.  We spent simple, but most beautiful times in Assisi.  We realized we do not need lots of things to live in Assisi.

14日、快晴。サンタ･キアラ教会でサン･フランチェスコに語りかけたという十字架像を観る。教会内では美しい賛美歌が聞こえる。快晴で気持ちがいいので、アッシジの街を少し下ったサン・マッセオ付近の家々を取材することにする。さあ、ここでスケッチをしようと道具を出すと、水が鞄に入っていない。井戸も枯れている。人気もない。やっと見つけた民家に修理しているイタリア男性が二人いる。お願いしたら水道の水を頂くことができた。水彩画のスケッチは水が命。お陰でその民家をスケッチすることになった。春の美しい木漏れ日の日だった。

On the 14th, beautiful day.  We saw the cross which is the one who used to speak to St. Francis in S. Chiara.  It was such a beautiful day, we went down from the town to sketch around S. Masseo.  But we realized that we'd forgot a bottle of water for sketches in our bag.  After walking for a while to look for somobody to ask for water, and found men restoring an old house and finally got a glass of water.  Instead, we sketched that house.  It was such a beautiful shiny day. 

15日、快晴。ロッカからアッシジの街を一望。サン･ルフィーノとサンタ･キアラをスケッチ。絵本「フランチェスコ」をもってアッシジの老舗本屋ズッボリの主人マウリッツォの印刷工房を訪れる。すんなり絵本販売の交渉成立。イタリア語版と日本語版両方を置いてもらえることになった。森田が13年間毎年アッシジに通って取材をしていることも知っているようだった。イタリアで日本人が信用を構築するには長い年月がかかるものであるが、それが大切だと実感する。

On the 15th, sunny day, we climbed up to Rocca to view Assisi and sketched S. Rufino and S. Chiara.  Then, we visited Zubboli studio, bringing a sample of picture book "Francis".  Now they have book "Francis" both Japanese and Italian on sale.  Morita has been used to visiting Assisi for 13 years.  It's hard and takes long time for Japanese person to build good relationships for business.

4月16日（土）、雨。今日はフランチェスコ会が13世紀に教皇から認可を得た記念すべき日である。21：00からサン･フランチェスコ大聖堂の上院で創立796周年を記念してコンサートが行われた。雨の降る寒い中、大勢の人が集まった。ブラザー・サン・シスター・ムーンの曲をアレンジしたものもあり、荘厳な大聖堂におけるコンサートの響きは忘れがたい思い出となった。

April 16th, Saterday, Rain.
It's the 796 year anniversary from the date when S. Francis got the permission from the pope in 13C.  There was a classic concert with lots of audience in S. Francis cathedral from 21:00pm, even if it was rainy and freezing night.  It was most unforgettable memory of the concert for us.

17日、雨。雨は降っても取材する。
13：45、サンタ・マリア・マッジョーレ教会に入る。元の司教座で、この教会の前でサン･フランチェスコが衣服を脱いで財産放棄をしたことで知られている。堂内側廊左の聖ジュゼッペ（ヨセフ）祭壇、ドーノ・ドーニのフレスコ画（1560年）が壁に埋もれていたのを最近やっと修復したばかり。ドーノ・ドーニはアッシジの画家で、彼の名を冠した通りがドゥオーモの脇にある。教会の中ではアメリカ人の結婚式を行っていた。列席されたアッシジ司教に紹介を受け、フレスコ画修復に関するパンフレットを司教より頂く。

17th, Rain.  We must sketch, even if it's rain.
13：45pm, we went to S. Maria Maggiore church, where is the first cathedral in Assisi, and well known for S. Francis take all his belongings off in front.  Recently, the fresco painted by Dono Doni was restored.  In the church, Wedding Ceremony was held by an American couple.

18日、18：15、アッシジ中の鐘が鳴る。いつも定刻を知らせてくれる鐘の音がいつまでも鳴り止まない。サン･ルフィーノの前でどうしたんだろうと思っていたら、新しい法王ベネデット16世が決定したと教えてくれた。3日間のコンクラーベで決まったのは早い方だ。

18th, There were all of the bells in the churches ringing at 18：15pm.  We wonder why?  It was the announcement that  Benedetto the 16th was posted as new pope after 3 day concrabe.

（4月21日）
11：00、スペッロ到着。スペッロへの取材はこれが10回目であろうか。イタリア人が誰しも口をそろえて可愛いというスペッロは毎回の取材では欠かせない。ピンク色の石畳もしっかり残されていて、どの界隈も絵になる。また、遠景もおとぎの国のように美しい。6月には世界的に有名なインフィオラータinfiorata(Corpus Christi)と呼ばれる「花祭り」があり、街の路地が花絨毯で彩られとても美しい。この小さな街のサンタ・マリア・マッジョーレ教会には、ピントゥリッキオ（ピントリッキオ）の傑作とされるバッリオーニ家の礼拝堂壁画がある。ピントゥリッキオはペルジーノの弟子で、ラファエッロの兄弟子にあたる画家である。更に同派の「天才」と謳われたアンドレア・ダッスィスィ（アッシジ）の貴重な壁画も左袖廊にある。更に、サン・ロレンツォ教会の右翼廊にはピントゥリッキオとエウゼビオ・ダ・サングレゴリオの共作による大きな板絵「聖母子像」がある。この辺りで採れるオリーブは最良のもので、オリーブ・オイルが有名である。

April 21th
At 11:00am, arriving Spello.  
Every time we come to Assisi, we always go to Spello.  Most of Italians love Spello.  They have pink stone pavement, and everywhere is beautiful to sketch.  We also love the fresco paintings by Pintoricchio in S. Maria Maggiore church.

（4月22日）

今日は、サンタ･マリア･デッリ・アンジェリ教会に行って絵本の交渉をする日。朝9時過ぎにカルリに車（アルファロメオ）で送ってもらい、ディレクターと面会する。予想以上に簡単に交渉成立。「小さき兄弟会（通称：フランシスコ会）」発祥の地で販売出来るのは大きな喜びであり、私たちにとっては大変励みになる。堂内に行き、ポルズィウンコラに入って感謝のお祈り。教会を後にし、カヴァルカボーヴェ地区の休耕地から街のパノラマを描く。陽に焼かれ、鳥たちの囀りを聞きながら続けて3枚仕上げて街中に戻る。天気も気分も晴れた日の仕事ははかどる。

April 22nd
Today, we have to go to S. Maria degli Angeli church, to negotiate our picture book "Francis".  We met the director of Libreria Internazionale Francescana.  Now the Japanese version is on sale in the store.  We are so happy and pray in Porziuncola.  We then went out of the church toward to Assisi and in the middle of the field, sketched its panorama.

Urbino　（ウルビーノ）

（4月23日〜4月25日）
8:15のバスでフォリーニョまで行くが、街中からBucci社のウルビーノ行きバスが出ていない。当社に問い合わせ、指示された場所に行くとトレビ付近。これがデマ情報だった。仕方なくTrevi トレヴィ の街中を暫く散策。スペッロと同様に小石を組み合わせた石畳が美しい。12:00のバスでフォリーニョに戻る。インフォメーションで事情を話すと、「ブッチ社は大きな問題をかかえている。同様のトラブルが後を絶たない」と言われる。列車に切り替え、アンコーナ行き13:25発に乗りファルコナーラ・マッサマリッティマ駅で乗り換える。16:03ラヴェンナ行きに乗ってペーザロまで。16:41ペーザロ着。駅を出てバス・ターミナルまで行き、9番からウルビーノ行きが出ており17:30（ラピド）に乗って30分程度でメルカターレ広場（城壁前）に到着する。ヴァルボナ門をくぐってマッツィーニ通りを上り、レプッブリカ広場直前で左に上がる小道ポスタ・ヴェッキア通りに入って一つ目から左に行くとバロッチ通りである。16世紀ウルビーノ出身の画家フェデリーコ・バロッチの名をとったものだ。13番のサン・ジョヴァンニ（近くに同名の教会があるため命名）というアルベルゴに宿をとる。ウルビーノでのスケッチ取材はこの宿を基点にする。アッシジを出てほぼ半日の長旅だった。

April 23rd to 26th
On the 23rd, we went to Foligno by 8:15 bus, and then took a train, departing at 13:25pm, arriving Pesaro at 16:41pm.  We then took a bus rapid for Urbino.  We stayed in Hotel S. Giovanni.

Urbino　（ウルビーノ）

ウルビーノの街はほぼルネサンス時代に統一されていて「理想都市」と呼ばれているのだが、街中で見るべきものは少ない。ドゥカーレ宮と付随する美術館に集中して、その外はラッファエッロの家ぐらいである。フェデリーコ・モンテフェルトロ公時代に培われた宮廷人としての礼儀は残っていて、人々は落ち着きがあり丁寧である。残念なことに、ラッファエッロの作品は街中に3点しか残っていない。どれも小品ばかりで、ここは彼が生まれた痕跡を見るだけである。彼の父ジョヴァンニ・サンテイの作品も10点程度が残るのみだ。フェデリーコ公が造り上げたこの街は整然としていている。やはり武人の影響か、フィレンツェのメディチのような華やかさは無いが、落ち着いた風情を残している。街中で美しいのはヴァルボナ門をくぐって左手、上り坂になった地区であり、生活の一端が垣間見える。

Urbino was once controlled by Duke Federico Montefertro in Renaissance, called "ideal city", but in fact, we couldn't really see why it is called "ideal", if we compare with other cities.  People are polite, and the town is well organized, but doesn't have beauty like Firenze.  We found the beautiful corners of the town near Porta Valbona.  Unfortunately, Urbino has only 3 small peaces of Raffaello's paintings.

Assisi　（アッシジ）

（4月27日）
ウルビーノから5時間以上かけて前日にアッシジに戻り、「やはりアッシジは良い!!」の感を強める。ホテルはラ・ロッカというペルリィチ門通りにある清潔な宿。翌朝早くにスケッチに出かける。特に宿周辺の最も古い街並みを保つ地区を描く。アッシジで描けるのも残り少ない。焦るように立て続けに4枚仕上げる。アッシジの友人たちにもお別れを伝えに行く。まずは画家のアルベルト・スカラバットリ。いつもながらウンブリアの作家らしい叙情的な風景や人物を描いている。彼の人柄そのものが画面に現れている。

April 27th
We are then back to Assisi from Urbino, after long journey for 5 hours, and thought Assisi is beautiful!!!.  We stayed in Hotel La Rocca.  Next morning, it was a beautiful day, we sketched 4 peaces a day.  Then, we visited our frineds, Alberto who is an artist opened a gallery in Assisi.  He is gentle, and it shows in his beautiful paintings.

続けてフランチェの店に居るラウラにお別れを言いに行く。彼女の家族とも長い付き合いになる。丁度今年からフランチェのT-shops assisiで働き始めたことを知り驚いた。彼女はアッシジの有名な5月祭り「カレンディマッジョ」のマドンナ・プリマヴェーラ（春の女王）になったことがあるアッスィサーナ（アッシジ娘）だ。彼女の妹アンナリサはペルージャの大学で美術を専攻しており、今はアッシジの市役所壁画（ラッファエッロ派）を修復している。また、オテル・イタリアのオーナーであるエレナも現在はサン・フランチェスコ教会下院の壁画を修復中だった。

Then, we met Laura to say goodbye.  Morita has known her and her family for long time.  She is pretty, and once prized as a queen of Calendi Maggio.  Annalissa studied Art and has a job of fresco restoration.

Montefalco　（モンテファルコ）

（4月28日〜29日）
6:50、早朝マティオッティ広場からフォリーニョ行きSITバスに乗る。バスは通学用なので早朝のバスを逃すとモンテファルコに午前中に到着しない。7：40フォリーニョ着。ギリギリセーフで7：45モンテファルコ行きSITバスに乗り込み、8：10モンテファルコのバス停へ早々と到着。モンテファルコの街の中心コムーネ広場までは、バスターミナルから見える城門をくぐりG. Mameli通りの坂道を100ｍ上がったところにある。サンタゴスティーノ教会に入る。コムーネ広場から更に裏通りの小さな通りが旧市街らしい。どの家も可愛く花を飾ってあり、10：15、モンテファルコでのスケッチ取材開始、小さなサンタ･ルチア教会の前のヴァザーリ通りをスケッチ。11:30、スケッチを終了した後、楽しみにしていたサン･フランチェスコ教会へ行く。この教会の中には、ゴッツォリ作「サン･フランチェスコの生涯」とペルジーノ作「キリスト降誕」のフレスコ画が必見である。こんな小さな田舎町のそれも小さな教会にこれほどの絵が残されているイタリアにはいつも驚かされるが、はるばるモンテファルコに来たかいがあった。イタリアでは美術館へ行くよりも教会へ行くべきであることを痛感。また田舎に住む人たちの文化レベルが高いこともしかり。美しい環境に美しい名画あり、そしてそこに住む人の文化を育てる。イタリアの田舎には田舎者がいないことに驚く。

April 28th to 29th
At 6:50am, we took a bus from Assisi, and arrived Foligno at 7:10pm.  Then, we changed bus, arriving Montefalco at 8:10am.  We took a walk about 100m from the bus terminal to the center Piazza del Comune.  On the way, we passed the gate, and popped into S. Agostino church.  Behind the Comune, there are old beautiful houses around decorated with flowers.  We took a place to sketch the street in front of S. Lucia church at 10:15am.  Then, we went to S. Francesco church to see fresco paintings of "Life of S. Francesco" by Gozzori, and also "Nativity" by Perugino.  They are extremely beautiful and moved, and we are surprised to see that this small town has such important treasures of paintings.  It's worth coming to Montefalco just to see them.  It's better vitising churches rather than museums in Italy.  They have beautiful pictures in beautiful environment, and those surroundings can bring up their people and their high cultures, we thought.

モンテファルコはウンブリアの手すりと呼ばれ、晴れた日にはアッシジ、スペッロと近郊の街が見渡せる。その名を取った「アルベルゴ・リンギェーラ・ウンブラ」に宿を取ることにした。清潔で快適。ウンブリアの宿は全体的に安くて安全で清潔で当たり外れが無い。1Fにはピッツェリアも併設しており、夜は薄焼きの巨大ピザにモンテファルコのワインとオリーブオイルに舌鼓。モンテファルコは小さくて可愛く予想以上に美しかった。

Montefalco is called "Ringhiere dell'Umbria (Umbria's balcony)".  In the beautiful days, we can see Assisi, Spello, and other town from Montefalco.  We stayed Hotel Ringhiera Umbra for a night, and had pizzas in its restaurant.  Montefalco is small and pretty more than we expected.

Assisi　（アッシジ）

（4月29日〜30日）
29日、13：35モンテファルコからバスに乗り、14：20アッシジ・マテオッティ広場へ到着。最後のアッシジ滞在の日。最後の晩餐にデルータに住む兄弟フランチェスコ宅へ誘われているが、それまでの僅かな時間、大急ぎでスケッチを行った。これがアッシジ最後の取材となる。街の中は5月5日から7日まで行われる「カレンディマッジョ」の祭りの準備で街中が旗で埋め尽くされている。兄弟フランチェスコとその家族とも今日がお別れになる。一年後にまたアッシジに来ることを堅く約束する。

April 29th to 30th
On the 29th, we are back to Assisi at 14:20pm, after sketching one peace in the morning.  We were invited by our brother Francesco.  Today is the last day in Assisi, and we suddenly decided to sketch one quickly in Sopla.  We don't have any more time in Assisi.  In the town, there are lots of flags for Calendi Maggio festival.  We promissed to come to Assisi to see Francesco next year.  Very sad to leave.

（4月30日）
5月1日は労働者たちの日でイタリアは祝日になる。その前日の4月30日にうっかりローマで宿を当日探そうと思った私たちは大間違いだった。友人たちが、「こんな日に宿を予約していないのか」と言っていたことを思い出す。身長が縮みそうなくらい重いバッグパックを担ぎ心当たりのある宿を歩きたずねるが、結局一軒の宿も見つからない。早々に諦めてローマから列車で40分先の隣町「オルテ」まで戻り、駅前のホテルに泊まることにした。全く情報もない私たちは、ホテルのオーナーに「オルテは古い街」だと聞き、折角なのでオルテの旧市街まで行ってみることにした。17：00駅からバスに乗った。街は予想外に古く美しく、夕方にもかかわらずどうにかスケッチを取り急ぎ行った。そうするうちに、歌手を乗せたトラクターが広場にやってきて、農夫の格好をしたイタリア人たちがクッキーを配り始めた。労働者の日の恒例のようだ。このボロボロで古く美しいオルテの街で、すっかり疲れきった私たちはクッキーを頬張りながらやっと救われたような気がした。ローマと違って人も素朴で優しい。聖フランチェスコと伴侶たちも、1209年の会則認可直後の帰郷途中、ここに立ち寄りしばらく滞在している。

April 30th
May 1st is a National  holiday in Italy.  We didn't have hotel reservations in Roma on the 30th.  Our bag packs were so heavy to carry, but looking for hotels next to next, and all of the hotels are fully packed.  We finally gave up staying in Roma and took train for 40 minutes to the next town, Orte.  In front of the Orte station, there is one hotel, and left our bags, and went to the town center by bus.  Orte is small old town, and lots of attractive places to sketch for us.  It was early evening, but we quickly sketched one in Piazza Liberta.  Later, there was a trolly with singers singing Labor songs for tomorrow.  They were simply celebrate the day, and serve sweets.  People here were nice and cheerful not like in Roma.  It was a hard and long day, but we were saved at last.

（5月1日〜2日）
イタリア最後の日。晴れ。8：15ローマ行きの列車に乗る。9：00ローマ着。駅近くの安宿に荷物を置き、早速ローマの街に出かける。まずはサンタ・マリア・マッジョーレ教会に行った後、フォロ･ロマーノに行くと、なんと閉鎖。スケッチ場所にと考えていたので急遽スケッチ場所を探す。ヴィットーリ・エマヌエーレＩＩ広場を過ぎると運良く静かにスケッチ取材できそうな場所を確保。11：30マルチェッロ劇場横を描く。ティベリナ島からトラステベッレ地区のサンタ・チェチリア教会前をスケッチ。続けて2枚の取材が完成。祝日でもあり、店はほとんどが閉店。パンテオンも閉鎖。有名な名珈琲店タッツァ・ドーロも閉店。行き場所を失った観光客は道に溢れる。最後の望みをかけて、ローマでは必ず行くサン・ルイージ・デイ・フランチェーズィ教会に行くと開いており、カラヴァッジョ作「マタイのお召し」を鑑賞。ナヴォーナ広場でローマっ子の大好きなジェラートをいただき、トレヴィの泉を見て、最後、私たちのお気に入りの可愛い教会、サンタ･プラッセーデ教会のサン・ゼノーネ礼拝堂にある9世紀初頭のモザイク画を鑑賞。イエスの鞭打ちの時に縛られていたという大理石を観る。メル･ギブソン監督の映画「パッション」での鞭打ちのシーンに使われていた円柱と色も形も同じであることを確認。夜遅く宿に戻り、ローマは喧騒の中慌しく終わった。やはりイタリアはウンブリアの田舎が良い！
2日、12：50香港経由福岡行きの飛行機に搭乗。
3日、20：40福岡空港着。ひのくに号で熊本入り。この旅も終わる。

May 1st to 2nd
The last day in Italy was beautiful day.  Departing Orte at 8:15am, and arriving Roma at 9:00am.  We quickly left our bags in a cheap hotel, and firstly went to S. Maria Maggiore basilica, then Foro Romano, but they are closed, but full of people in the street.  After passing Piazza Victore Emanuele II, we found a good location to sit for sketch in front of  Teatro Marcello at 11:30am.  Then we crossed Tiberina island, and went to Trastebelle area to sketch.  It was a national holiday, and almost shops are closed in Roma.  Pantheon was closed, cafe Tazza d'Oro was closed.  Full of tourists are packed in the streets.  We then went to S. Luigi dei Francesi to see fresco paintings "Vocazione di S. Matteo" by Caravaggio.  Then, we went to Piazza de Navona, and Fontana di Trevi, then our most favorite church S. Prassede church to see mosaic.  Late night, we went back to the hotel.  It was a long hard day again.  
On the 2nd, boarding at 12:50 for Hong Kong
On the 3rd, arriving Fukuoka at 20:40, then back to Kumamoto.

この取材旅を終えて
After the Travel

毎年取材で訪れるアッシジの街、幾千年も変わらずに存在する街であるが、その中で生活する人々や家々はやはり刻々と移り変わっている。大きな時の流れの中では微々たる変化なのだろうが、私たちのような1人の人間にとっては大きな変化に感じられる。あの人は亡くなった。あの人はもうこの街に居ない。。。など。やはり1997年の大地震の爪痕は甚大なものだったようで、今頃になって建造物の芯を強める作業に追われている。世界中の悩めるクリスチャンたちが救いを求めにやって来ていたサン・マッセオも、今は糞尿にまみれたただの廃墟になってしまった。愕然となることもあり、寂しく感ずることもただ受け入れざるを得ない。でもこれも歴史の一部なのだろう。

それでも、他の街を訪れ、その街の人々と接して思うことは（欲目なのかもしれないが）、アッシジの街のバランスの良さである。ただ、ショッピング（ブランド品の）目的や宗教的なものを嫌う人にはこのバランスが変わるだろうが。。。

今回の取材では、前回にも増して収穫の多いものとなった。ことに絵本「フランチェスコ」をアッシジのズッボリとサンタマリア・デッリ・アンジェリ教会に置いてもらえたのは光栄の極みであった。

また、いつも友人たちの励ましや協力に助けられ、より一層充実した取材を終えることが出来ることも私たちにとってとても幸せなことである。ここで皆にお礼を述べる。

この出来の悪い家族をいつも優しく迎えてくれる「我が家族」にはことのほか礼を述べたい。

Every year, we visited Assisi for sketches.  Assisi is the old beautiful city not changing for more than 1000 years of time, but the people, houses and streets there have been slightly changing little by little.  It maybe the small changes for the long period, but it maybe a part of history. 

This time, we visited other parts of Italy and meet people there, but balance is so different from city to city.  On this point of view, Assisi has the most ideal balance, Art, History, Environment, Culture, Access, about lots of things.

This travel was fruitful for us, both studies  and sales, especially our picture book sales to Zubboli and S. Maria degli Angeli.

Every time visiting Assisi, we were helped by our friends.  We like to thank all of you here in this dairy.  Thank You.
